The Sunflower Is the Summer Wedding Flower: Eleven Ways to Bring It Into the Day

The summer of 2026 has its own wedding flower, and it's neither the rose nor the peony. The sunflower - big, golden, unmistakably a summer bloom - has moved into the bouquets and decor of weddings, especially for ceremonies from July to early September. It's no accident: little else captures the atmosphere of a warm, sunny day so precisely.

In the bouquet the sunflower works in several ways. It can be part of a wild, multicoloured tie cinched with a velvet ribbon in burgundy, or, the other way round, a tall, elongated arrangement that stretches the picture and gives a more serious, more elegant look. Also popular are XL arrangements with one dominant sunflower surrounded by greenery like eucalyptus, or mixed bouquets where the sunflower is paired with white chrysanthemums.

In the decor the possibilities are even greater. Sunflowers on the altar bring an instant warm, golden note. On the tables they go in combination with lemons in long, „imperial" arrangements, or with checked black covers and rustic lamps for a relaxed, rural style. They're also used in the sweet corner with white chrysanthemums, and as a motif in the seating plan and the whole wedding graphic design.

There are more striking details too - a hand-painted sunflower as a hair accessory for the bride, or a motif embossed on the invitations. As the florists say, sunflowers with their vivid golden colour create an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. And for a Balkan wedding, where sun and abundance have always been part of the story, it's hard to find a more natural choice than a flower that itself looks like a little sun on the table.
