Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel responded sharply to US president Donald Trump, who stated he would "take Cuba." Trump called Cuba a "weakened nation" following the island's electrical grid collapse.

Diaz-Canel announced "unbreakable resistance" against any attempt at American intervention. Cuba is facing its worst economic crisis since the 1959 revolution.

Pressure on Cuba intensified further after Maduro's arrest, which cut off Venezuelan oil support. The economic situation on the island grows increasingly dire, but the government in Havana refuses any concessions.
