The US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was struck by a drone in the early morning hours of March 3, 2026. A fire broke out in the building but was limited in scope - there were no casualties, as the building was unoccupied at the time of the attack.

President Donald Trump quickly responded and promised a decisive and rapid response, describing the attack as a direct strike against American sovereignty. It is not yet clear when or in what manner the promised retaliation will be carried out.

The attack on the mission in Riyadh is part of a wider series of Iranian drone and missile attacks directed at Persian Gulf states hosting American military bases. The attacks came following US and Israeli air operations against Iranian targets.

The embassy suffered no structural damage and material damage is minimal. Nevertheless, the attack represents a significant escalation - for the first time, a US diplomatic mission in the region was directly struck. Simultaneously with the Riyadh attack, Israel carried out new strikes on targets in Lebanon and Iran.
