Half an Hour at the Mirror, and the Frame Wipes It All Out in One Move: the Spot on the Nose Everyone Skips

Every woman who wears glasses knows the scene: half an hour at the mirror, and then the frame slides down the nose and wipes out the whole job in one move. Veronica Pose, national makeup artist for Sephora Iberia, says the problem is not the makeup but the fact that everyone skips the last step.

"The most common mistake is not setting the part of the nose where the glasses rest", she says. The fix is free if you already have loose powder - a little extra on exactly those two points, and the frame has nothing left to stick to.

The second thing that changes everything else is mascara. Pose is direct: "The essential step here is lash mascara." The lens optically shrinks the eyes and pushes them back, and the lashes are the only thing that comes out in front of the glass. Brown for a natural result, black for definition, blue or green if you want something to be noticed.

On eyeshadow she gives advice rarely heard in advertising - play with the colour of the frame itself. "Personally I play a lot with the colour of my glasses and my makeup looks, because I have blue, red, green and black glasses", she says. So either monochrome, in the same tone as the frame, or a deliberate contrast. A soft smoky eye in violet or blue works for most people.

With concealer, the rule runs against instinct: less. "The rule that less is more applies one hundred percent", Pose says. Only on the darker areas, blended with a brush or a finger. A layer seen under a lens looks twice as thick as it is.

And the eyebrows, which she argues are underrated: "Eyebrows are hugely important for the shape and expression of our face, not only when we wear glasses." The advice that costs the least: "If they want a natural result, a brow gel that combs them through - that already changes everything."

None of this requires a new makeup bag. It is a sequence, not a purchase - which is a different message from the one the industry usually sends out in September.
