A Rolls-Royce at 194 km/h where the limit is 80: Gostivar man arrested on the motorway to Tetovo

The driver of a Rolls-Royce with Tetovo plates was caught doing 194 kilometres an hour on the Gostivar - Tetovo motorway, on a stretch where the speed limit is 80 kilometres an hour. That's 114 km/h over the limit - more than double.

The speed was clocked by officers of the Mobile Road Traffic Safety Unit on October 23 at 12:05, using a special police interceptor vehicle. Behind the wheel was 44-year-old B.M. from Gostivar, who was immediately arrested on suspicion of "reckless driving of a motor vehicle" under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code. Proceedings will be brought against him.

At 194 km/h a car covers almost 54 metres every second, on a stretch limited to 80. The expensive car isn't the offence. The offence is the decision to drive at that speed past every other driver on the motorway at that moment.

The Interior Ministry says stepped-up checks with interceptors will continue across the country. This time the interceptor was in the right place. How many times wasn't it?
