The Shevitsa ensemble's folk spectacle "Zmeyova Svatba" ("The Dragon's Wedding") premieres in Petrich on November 21, 2026. The performance is at 7 p.m. at the "Brothers Miladinovi" community centre, in the town closest to the Novo Selo border crossing into Macedonia.
The story comes from Petko Yu. Todorov's 1910 play, and at its core is the relationship between the poet Peyo Yavorov and Mina Todorova, the author's sister. They are the models for the Dragon and Tsena. Yavorov is a name familiar to Macedonian readers too: he was a member of the Macedonian revolutionary movement and wrote a biography of Goce Delčev. The spectacle marks 111 years since his death.
Concept, direction and choreography are by Petar Angelov, who founded Shevitsa in 2014. The ensemble has more than 90 dancers and singers, has been a member of CIOFF since 2016, and has performed at festivals in Italy, Romania and South Korea. The music is by Petyo Krastev, the consultant is Georg Kraev, and actor Stefan Milkov makes a special appearance.
Tickets on bilet.bg cost 12 to 25 euros, roughly 740 to 1,540 denars. For audiences from Strumica, Petrich is a short drive away via the Novo Selo - Zlatarevo border crossing.
