Macedonia exceeds the average women's representation in national parliaments of EU member states, according to the latest Eurostat data. In 2025, women occupied 37.5 percent of parliamentary seats in Macedonia, compared to the EU average of 33.6 percent.

Compared to 2015, women's representation in EU national parliaments grew by 5.4 percentage points, while Macedonia saw a growth of 3.4 percentage points.

The countries with the highest women's representation are Finland (46 percent), Sweden (44.8 percent) and Denmark (44.7 percent). At the bottom are Cyprus (14.3 percent), Hungary (15.6 percent) and Romania (22 percent). Latvia recorded the largest gain at 19 percentage points, while Germany is the only country where representation fell — by 3.5 points.

The picture is less optimistic at government level: women account for only 12.5 percent of Macedonia's government, though this is an increase of 2.5 percentage points from 2015. Finland leads here too, with 60 percent female participation in government, while Hungary has no female ministers.
