The Ukrainian Classical Ballet performs Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" at Opatija's Centar Gervais on December 8 at 8 p.m. The show is part of the Festival Opatija programme and returns to the town after a successful visit last season.
Generations know the story: the girl Marie finds an unusual present under the Christmas tree and enters a world of fantasy. The choreography is by Valery Petrovich Kovtun, one of the best-known choreographers and ballet masters, and the company is made up of soloists and an ensemble with experience in leading European ballet theatres.
According to the organisers, more than 50,000 people saw this production of "The Nutcracker" last year on two parallel European tours. In December the same company also performs it at Zagreb's Lisinski. Opatija saw the same production last December too, when Centar Gervais was full, and the organisers clearly decided it was worth repeating.
Tickets are split into eight categories, from 30 to 55 euros (about 1,848 to 3,388 denars), and are sold via mojekarte.hr. Centar Gervais is in Opatija, on the Kvarner coast, Croatia.
