The trial over the fire at the Puls nightclub in Kočani resumed with the testimony of a forensic expert from the Institute of Forensic Medicine. The forensic specialist took the stand to answer the central question: how quickly carbon monoxide kills, and whether on-site oxygen intervention could have saved lives.

The public prosecutor's office has already submitted autopsy findings on 59 victims: most died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Four - from chest crush injuries, three - from oxygen deprivation. Three who died during treatment - from acute lung failure. One - from severe burns. Total: 63 victims, more than 200 injured, 160 of them seriously. On the defendants' bench: 35 individuals and 3 legal entities - all denying guilt.

The forensic expert also has to answer questions about hydrogen cyanide - whether it was found in the toxicology results. This is a toxin released by burning plastics and synthetic materials - the kind of materials that in poorly ventilated nightclubs can create a lethal mixture within seconds. The trial continues.
