Jokić Will Sign $290 Million - and That's Just the Start of the Nuggets' Summer

Nikola Jokić is going to sign the contract. That is news that surprises nobody - but the numbers are still worth writing down: four years, $290 million. The Denver Nuggets will trigger the extension in July, and their three-time MVP has no reason at all to refuse.

Insider Shams Charania confirms that the expectations on both sides are aligned - Jokić stays, and Denver builds onwards with him at the centre. Head coach David Adelman is staying too. But the stability ends there: the rest of the roster is in question.

After an early playoff exit this season, the Nuggets are set to make significant changes to the playing roster. With $290 million tied up in Jokić, the question is which pieces they put around him so that Denver can be a real title force again.

Jokić averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists a game this season - another triple-double year. He continues to be among the most dominant players in the history of his position. The problem isn't Jokić. The problem has always been who plays next to him.
