Inter Win Their 21st Title: Thuram and Mkhitaryan Close Out Serie A With Three Rounds to Spare

Inter Milan are champions of Serie A. With a 2-0 win over Parma at San Siro, the Nerazzurri have claimed the 21st title in the club's history - with three rounds still to play and a 12-point lead over Napoli. The maths leaves no room for the chasers.

Marcus Thuram opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, after Nicolò Barella had hit the post a little earlier. Inter controlled the match without serious stress - Parma rarely came near Sommer's goal, and Nesti Elfegh's effort was disallowed. A consolation for the visitors, nothing more.

In the 80th minute Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the title with a precise finish after an assist from substitute Lautaro Martínez. The Armenian, who has lifted every kind of trophy in his career - Roma, Arsenal, Inter - picked up another medal today. Not a bad coda for a footballer plenty of people had already written off as on his way out.

For Inter, this is confirmation that Simone Inzaghi's project works. Three seasons, three Serie A titles - this is the kind of domestic dominance Italian football has not seen since Juventus's golden run. Is this a new dynamic force in Europe, or just a domestic story? Next season's Champions League will answer that.
