The National Opera and Ballet performs Giacomo Puccini's "Turandot" on October 9 at 20:00. Nikolina Janevska sings the title role, Prince Calaf is tenor Guo Si Zhao from China, and Italian conductor Gianluca Martinenghi leads the house chorus and orchestra.
Direction, sets and costumes are by Giancarlo del Monaco. Liù is sung by Biljana Josifov or Sandra Mitrovska, Timur is Igor Durlovski or Vladimir Sazdovski, and the three ministers Ping, Pang and Pong are played by Dragan Ampov, Dejan Stoev or Nikola Stojčeski, and Jane Dunimagloski. Choreography is by Saša Evtimova.
"Turandot" is an opera its composer never lived to see finished: Puccini died in 1924 before writing the final scene, and the work premiered at Milan's La Scala in 1926. It contains "Nessun dorma", the aria Luciano Pavarotti turned into an anthem far beyond opera houses. The story of a princess who executes every suitor who fails to solve her three riddles still sounds brutal today - and that is exactly why it works.
A ticket costs 800 denars. The house does not sell online - tickets are bought at the box office, whose phone numbers are published on operabalet.mk.
