Andrija Dabanović brings his new stand-up show "Nezavisan" (Independent) to the National Theatre stage in Kikinda on 5 November at 8 pm. It's a personal set about leaving Montenegro and moving to Belgrade, told by a comedian Serbian audiences also know from the TV comedy "Reci 8".

The title is a play on words. Now that he's on his own and "independent", Dabanović sets out to prove that this is exactly when he became dependent on lots of other things. The show also goes deeper, to the edges of addiction, asking whether someone who abstains from something is actually free or just tied down differently.

In the Balkans, the story of leaving a small country for the big city isn't exotic - it's the biography of whole generations. Dabanović tells it as someone living it right now, not from a distance, which is exactly why subjects like this work on stage.

Tickets cost 1,500 dinars, about 790 denars, on tickets.rs and at Tickets outlets. Kikinda is in northern Banat, and "Independent" is touring smaller Serbian towns this autumn, with the next stop in Banja Koviljača on 19 November.
