The Cassandra Complex play the Boogaloo club in Zagreb on November 17, 2026, starting at 8 pm, together with Shobl. The British band that stands at the point where punk, goth and industrial met is coming to a Zagreb club forty-six years after it was formed.
The Cassandra Complex was formed in 1980 in Leeds by Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon and Andy Booth. Orpheus and Dillon met when Orpheus crashed Dillon's twenty-first birthday party in Leeds, where Orpheus had moved from Northern Ireland. Andy Booth, previously a journalist who had interviewed the band, was then invited to join and the group became a trio. Today's line-up still contains all three original members, with the addition of American musicians Chris Haskett and Mera Roberts, who work on a freelance basis.
What made them known in their early phase were the so-called „Complex events”, huge multimedia shows in which every edition was entirely original and involved musicians, performers, video projections and images. Through the eighties they were signed to the independent label Rouska Records, where they released a series of twelve-inch singles and became a regular name in the goth rock circle. Over the years their sound has passed through EBM, industrial, goth rock, new wave and synthpop, and it is often described as a fusion of Joy Division, the Ramones and Kraftwerk.
Tickets are 26 euros, roughly 1,602 denars, plus a booking fee, through entrio.hr. For a band that has worked outside the mainstream for four decades, Zagreb's Boogaloo is a room of exactly the right size.
