A Macedonian musical with Macedonian music is a rare thing. "Kao Kakao" has been running at the Macedonian National Theatre since June, and on 10 and 11 November at 8 pm it's back on stage.
The title is the same as Leb i Sol's 1987 album, and the music comes from the same man: 19 instantly recognisable Vlatko Stefanovski compositions, specially rearranged for the show by Boban Mirkovski. The script and dramaturgy are by Venko Andonovski, the direction by Dejan Projkovski and the choreography by Olga Pango. The producer is Bagi Komunikacii, with the National Theatre as co-producer.
The story is set in 1970s Skopje. A generation wants to make it, to love and to stay true to itself, at a time that doesn't give it much room to do so. The melodramatic love story carries the characters between their dreams and the limits set by the system, the people around them and their own choices. On stage are Vladimir Petrović, Katerina Jovanović, Nina Elzeser, Stefan Spasov, Anja Mitić and around fifteen more actors, with a live orchestra.
Tickets start at 1,100 denars and are sold via wayin.mk. If you can't make it in November, the musical plays again on 11 and 12 December, also at the National Theatre.
