Forty years ago this piece would have caused a scandal if someone wore it in the street. Today, lace satin shorts are among the most sought-after trends of summer 2026. What once belonged strictly to the underwear drawer now strolls freely across the city squares - and no longer surprises anyone.
The transformation is not new. It began in the nineties, with the rise of minimalism and what fashion called "underwear-style dressing." Designers like John Galliano and Calvin Klein brought intimate silhouettes onto the runway - Galliano mixed lace, silk and tailored pieces, while Klein showed underwear as a standalone, minimalist sensual look. Then came Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Saint Laurent, pairing such pieces with blazers, men's shirts and jeans.
In practice, the shorts work surprisingly easily. They go both with a plain T-shirt and trainers for everyday, and with a classic shirt and heeled sandals for a special occasion. The satin gives movement and a light shine, the lace adds a romantic detail, and the short length visually lengthens the legs. The formula is "softly luxe" - casual enough for the day, polished enough for the evening.
Is this a piece for everyone? Not really - and that is the whole point of any trend. What was forbidden decades ago, and is a fashion favourite today, will retreat back into the drawer tomorrow to wait for a new occasion. Fashion does this constantly: it takes what was taboo and turns it into the norm, then finds a new taboo. Advice worth knowing before you spend - a trend comes and goes, and style stays only if it suits you, not the runway.
