A Man from Prilep Is Deputy Mayor in Sydney - Prodanoski Meets Oliver Dimoski

A man from Prilep sits in the leadership of one of Sydney's local councils. Oliver Dimoski is deputy mayor of Georges River Council and the councillor representing Blakehurst Ward. According to the council's official information, he was elected to the post on 2 September 2026, for a one-year term.

The mayor of Prilep, Dejan Prodanoski, met him this week. On the agenda: cooperation, stronger ties with Macedonian emigrants in Australia, their role in keeping the link with their home town alive, and promoting Prilep. In previous years Dimoski also served as president of the Prilep association in Sydney.

"I'm glad that people from Prilep who live and work in Australia are taking on positions of responsibility and actively contributing to public life, while at the same time nurturing their ties with their home town," Prodanoski said. He expressed hope that the meeting "will be an incentive for new opportunities for cooperation".

The story has its own warmth: a man from Prilep, on the other side of the planet, has made it to a place where decisions are taken about the streets and parks of an entire municipality. But the photo from the meeting is the easy part. The hard part is what Prilep will concretely get out of it - a partnership, an investment, an exchange - and whether, a year from now when the term runs out, there will be anything to show for it.
