Accordion, tamburica players and Bach in the same evening. Semir Sami Hasić, the world accordion champion, performs on Thursday, 29 October, at 8 pm in the Great Hall of the Zaprešić Public Open University, with the programme "From Bach to Sevdah".

Hasić was born in Zenica in 1964. He studied music in Zenica and Sarajevo, and graduated in composition and conducting in Würzburg, Germany, where he also earned the title of university professor. He won the world accordion championship in 1994 at a competition in Italy. His body of work counts more than 7,000 compositions, from classical to jazz, ethno and sevdah, and his virtuosity has earned him the nickname "the Balkan Mozart". He has performed in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Geneva, Rome, Hong Kong and Istanbul - and in Skopje. Today he lives in Zagreb, where he runs the Harmonika Fest.

The evening also brings a new instrument: Hasić will present his newest accordion, and the guests are vocal soloists with tamburica players. The programme runs from the classical repertoire to sevdalinka songs. What other instrument can leap from Bach to a sevdalinka without missing a beat, and in the same evening?

Tickets cost 20 euros, about 1,230 denars, on entrio.hr. Anyone who misses Zaprešić gets a second chance: on 3 November Hasić brings the same programme to the club of the Komedija theatre in Zagreb.
