Manchester United Splashing 150 Million on the Midfield: Anderson the Main Target, but City Is Ahead of Them

Manchester United is ready to spend around 150 million pounds (about 175 million euros) on new midfielders this summer, according to reports in the British media. Most of last year's budget went on the attack - now it's time for the thing Old Trafford has been hurting over for years: the midfield.

One thing is certain - Casemiro is leaving. The Brazilian has already confirmed he is walking out the front door at the end of the season, and Manuel Ugarte could also be sold if a reasonable offer arrives. The Red Devils are starting a clearout, and it's the first real move in a long time.

The main target is Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. Around 80 million pounds has been earmarked for Casemiro's replacement, but Forest won't let him go for less than 100 million. Second problem - Manchester City is in a stronger position for the 23-year-old, and when City shrugs in front of United's nose, the other side rarely ends up with an extended hand.

The other names on the list: Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Baleba might be available cheaper after a weak 2025/26 season. Wharton would need a heavy purse - Liverpool is also in the chase. Interest in Tonali has cooled, while Tchouaméni wants to stay at Real Madrid.

Michael Carrick's side is also looking for a new centre-back, the left-back is a priority, and if there's any budget left - a winger. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are expected to be sold. On paper, that's three midfielders, two full-backs and a winger in a single summer - reconstruction as a casual job.

The question nobody in Manchester wants to put is a different one - how many times has United already promised a „restart" in the last 10 years? And how many of those „restarts" ended with another missed transfer plus „we need to give the new manager time"? The money is there. The plan is written. We've watched this film at least six times already.
