Among the white flowers in the bride's bouquet sat a brooch. It was not decoration - it had belonged to her grandfather. „That was my favourite detail, because I felt that in some way he was holding my hand too on such an important day”, says Carla, wife of footballer Gabri Veiga.
The wedding took place on 6 June at the church of „Nuestra Señora de la Antigua” in Monforte de Lemos, with the reception at Aurea Palacio de Sober - a seventeenth-century palace in the Ribeira Sacra, in Galicia.
The story behind the wedding is more interesting than the photographs. The two have known each other since childhood. „One day Gabri spoke to me and that is when our story began”, she recalls. Then came four years together, part of them in Saudi Arabia while he played for Al-Ahli, and a daughter - whom they both describe as „the most beautiful thing they created together”.
Here is the point anyone who has been to a wedding in the Balkans will recognise. The most emotional moment of the whole ceremony was neither the bride's entrance nor the exchange of rings. It was when their daughter walked down the aisle. Carla called it „without doubt the most special and most moving moment of the entire wedding”. A wedding where the child is already there rearranges everything - it is not the beginning of a family, it is the confirmation of something that already exists.
Both dresses were made by designer Ze García. The first, for the church - classic, in delicate floral lace, with a bateau neckline, long sleeves and a fitted silhouette. „From the very first meeting, he gave me complete confidence”, the bride says. The designer finished it in under four months, while she was simultaneously mothering a small child and going to fittings.
The second, for the reception - satin, with a draped neckline, dropped sleeves and an open back. She gives the reason for a second dress plainly: „I chose a second look because I wanted to live every moment with complete freedom and enjoy it to the end.” That is a more honest explanation than you usually get for a second dress, and in one respect it is simply true - nobody has ever danced until three in the morning in fitted lace and been pleased with that decision.
The rest was deliberately simple: a tulle veil down the back, ivory pointed shoes, discreet jewellery. Hair for the church - a loosened bun with a few strands falling out, the one she wears anyway. For the reception - soft natural waves.
The decoration was handled by Sophie Cors, in beige and white, a palette mirroring their home. And then the reception turned into something closer to a village fair - the complete opposite of the calm ceremony. The guests were only the closest.
At a time when weddings are measured by guest count, by venue and by how well they look on a screen, it is worth noting what was described here as the most important: a brooch, a child walking down an aisle, and a decision that a second dress is not luxury but a way to finish the dancing. None of it shows up on a price list.
