Recycling in Skopje

Skopje produces more waste than anywhere else in the country, and its recycling containers are spread unevenly. Here are all of them across Skopje's ten municipalities: where they stand, which one is nearest to you and which ones go unemptied for days.

Pakomak's sensors measure how full each container is once a day. The table lists the Skopje containers that are more than 80% full right now, ordered by how many days in a row they've stayed that way.

In all ten Skopje municipalities, recycling containers are emptied by the city utility JP Komunalna higiena Skopje, under its agreement with Pakomak. So the municipal ranking below is, in essence, a picture of how fast one and the same company responds in different parts of the city.

How we count

We take the last reading of every day. If a sensor misses a day, the run of full days breaks. Sensors showing impossible jumps from 0% to 100% are left out of the rankings, so that one faulty device can't blacken a municipality's record.

Bulky waste and recycling yards

Old furniture, broken appliances and construction rubble don't belong in recycling containers. Skopje residents can take them themselves, free of charge, to Komunalna higiena's recycling yard in Karpoš or in Vardarište, while collection from home is paid.

JP Komunalna higiena Skopje, in all ten Skopje municipalities. In other towns this is done by public utility companies or collectors under contract with Pakomak.
