An Iranian general came out with a claim that sounds like a line from a film about a Third World War - but he says it after the thirteenth night of American attacks on Iran. General Abolfazl Shekarchi stated that Washington used against Iran „every capability, every weapon and every scenario” it had been saving for a clash with a great power.
„Every weapon tested around the world but never used in a real war has been used against us. Every technological capability the Americans planned and stockpiled for a reckoning with the great world powers has been brought to the battlefield against us”, Shekarchi claims. Rhetoric of despair, or an admission that Tehran is surprised by the force of the strike - hard to say, but the fact is that the strikes have been going on for thirteen nights in a row.
The escalation pushed the price of oil over 100 dollars per barrel for the first time since May. The Houthis from Yemen have stepped up attacks on Saudi ships in the Red Sea, threatening additional obstacles on the already tightened oil export routes through the Strait of Hormuz - the point through which a significant part of the world's oil passes.
Trump warned that any damage to ships or cargo would be paid from frozen Iranian assets and threatened to strike Iranian infrastructure if Tehran attacks ships in the strait. In other words - Washington charges its own threats in advance with someone else's money.
And while the great powers play war thousands of kilometres away, the bill for expensive oil does not look at borders. Will the price rise reach us too? The Balkans almost always pay the toll of other people's wars last, but they pay it. The question is not whether, but how much.
