When somebody threatened the prime minister on Instagram, the machinery kicked in at a speed you rarely see here: a complaint, an indictment and eight days of detention, all within days. The detail that matters is not the speed but who filed the complaint - not the prime minister, and not his security detail. The interior ministry acted on information it picked up itself, which is its legal right and duty for every single citizen. So the mechanism exists, and it applies to everyone. The LDP pointed out that complaints over threats to the life of Monika Zajkova have been sitting for months and years without a single institutional resolution; Dimitar Apasiev said the same of his own case, and journalists are among those who have received threats. There is one law. What makes the difference is the judgement call about when someone has to act.
On the steepest slope above Barutana, where the hiking trails begin, the draft plan allows 29,000 square metres of construction where the general urban plan permits 6,500. The second number is sharper still: of the 9,500 square metres of green space the master plan sets aside, 268 survive. This is terrain with an 80-metre drop, with no erosion-protection study and no opinion from the Directorate for Protection and Rescue - and their silence is being read as approval. Access for fire engines and ambulances, according to city councillor Biljana Filipovska-Todorcevska, is flatly impossible. Vodno was reforested over decades precisely because the material kept sliding down those slopes onto the city below.
The State Audit Office finished its review of public procurement at the state power company ESM and found a gas engine worth 2.48 million euros that was never put into operation, an additive worth 2.29 million that expired sitting in a warehouse, and equipment relocation worth 1.72 million that was never used afterwards. Together that is close to 6.5 million euros on three line items that produced not one kilowatt-hour. The procurement plan was amended 19 times in a single year, and six companies hold over 70 percent of the total value. Obligations taken on in 2024 alone come to 143.6 million euros.
The new criminal complaint against Stevco Jakimovski concerns a building permit issued on the basis of an urban plan the Constitutional Court annulled back in 2018. The application had been rejected twice, and then somebody stamped it anyway - for a building worth 13 million denars and a canopy inside park greenery. That same Constitutional Court is also the last stop the Vodno story keeps returning to, because the previous Barutana plan was struck down there too.
The Journalists' Park has been cleared for the umpteenth time - the second operation at the same spot within a year. Mayor Gerasimovski is himself appealing to the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, because clearing the site is not a solution but a postponement. The municipality has a digger; what it does not have is any authority over the people sleeping there.
On the same day, two senior officials announced progress in talks on the Electoral Code, and VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM both denied anyone had invited them - the amendments remain blocked behind 13,500 proposed changes. For the 20-million-euro national data centre the site has been chosen but the financier has not: the World Bank dropped out over misalignment with EU requirements, and the equipment will not be procured until 2027. In Probistip, meanwhile, 4.68 million denars is going into a school, of which the municipality is putting up only 180,000 - the rest comes from the Bureau for Balanced Regional Development, which is exactly what that mechanism exists for.
A 57-year-old woman from Skopje ended up in hospital after a stray bullet hit her in the shoulder as she sat in her own yard, while in Gjorce Petrov another woman found a round in front of her front door - two cases in one day. The same day brought ten domestic violence reports in just two days, two of them involving a breached court order. A court order is not a warning, it is a ruling - and when it is broken twice in two days, the question is who is actually monitoring it.
A drone entered NATO airspace over Lithuania and was shot down minutes after midnight, with all of Vilnius getting a warning on their phones - and still nobody is claiming it. In Ukraine, Russia is launching jet drones that fly at up to 500 kilometres per hour, with the monthly count jumping from 450 to 2,850 in three months. At the same time Russian sources claim they have closed an encirclement near Kharkiv - a village fell, but the city is a hundred kilometres away, a distance that vanishes completely inside a single headline.
In Germany the AfD wants the country buying Russian gas again, and the party has just taken 43.8 percent - the electricity bill in Leipzig does not come out any differently for who is saying it, which is precisely why they keep growing. The European and British forecasting models agree that winter is arriving with significantly less snow, because El Nino in the Pacific is shifting the currents that decide where it falls. And X has shut down the last two tools for reading without an account: Nitter is archived, XCancel is dead, and politicians' public statements are now visible only inside the network itself.
Stole Dimitrievski kept a clean sheet and rescued Valencia, a club that had to change both its manager and its director to win a single match. Tonight Vardar play Nantes without three men, while HC Ohrid defend their European title in an edition with a record 38 teams. Basketball is a gloomier story: the Macedonian 3x3 squad simply was not in Taranto - four registered players, a fixture on the schedule, and then nothing, with the Olympic committee citing legal proceedings it will not describe.
In the heavier half of the day the same thing repeats: the mechanism, the money and the authority are all in place. What changes is whether anyone decides they have to be used.
