New York a Step From a Title It Hasn't Seen in Half a Century, Dubai Wins the ABA in the Heart of Belgrade, Srcka Has Passed

New York a step from a title it hasn't seen in half a century

The Knicks are one win from their first NBA championship title in over 50 years, and the credit belongs to one name - OG Anunoby. His shot in the final seconds of game four of the finals pushed New York to the edge of history, and the city responded in its own way: the Manhattan borough president declared June 11 "OG Anunoby Day." It sounds excessive while the series isn't even over, but New York has waited so long that it celebrates every second near the trophy as if it's already won. The question is whether that relief will come a day too early - the finals haven't been won yet.

Wembanyama facing a suspension in the middle of the finals

San Antonio could be left without its pillar just when it needs him most. Victor Wembanyama earned a flagrant foul after elbowing Karl-Anthony Towns in game four of the finals, and now a one-game suspension hangs over him. For a team already charging through the series, one game without the most dominant defender in the league could be the difference between getting back into the series and the end of the season. The NBA knows how to punish harshly at moments like this - and the Spurs don't have the luxury of testing how harshly.

Giannis on the market again - Brooklyn was closer than thought

The trade summer has begun and the first big name is an old familiar one. According to reports, Giannis Antetokounmpo was much closer to a transfer to the Brooklyn Nets than believed, while the Celtics are reportedly pushing their own offer with just one untouchable player in the trench. Every summer the same story - Milwaukee pretends not to listen, while half the league plots how to pry him loose. Will the star who brought a title to a small market town finally seek a bigger stage, or is this once again negotiating fog? Until the first signature, it's all just whispers.

Dubai wins the ABA League in the heart of Belgrade

Regional basketball got a new champion from an unexpected address. Dubai won the ABA League 83:81 against Partizan in game four of the finals, and that in the heart of Belgrade, before a home crowd. Former Dubai player Aleksa Avramovic ironically sealed the win with free throws 15 seconds from the end, and Carlik Jones's last attempt to force overtime didn't fall. Kabengele led with 14 points and 8 rebounds. For Partizan this is the first season without a trophy since 2021, for Dubai the first title ever - proof that Gulf money no longer buys only names, but trophies in our own backyard.

Srcka has passed - the man who guarded Skopje's halls for six decades

Skopje basketball and all of Macedonian sport are bidding farewell to a legend who never threw a basket, but without whom many matches couldn't begin. Svetislav Dimovski - Srcka died at 80, after more than 60 years spent as a caretaker and host of sports halls. Through his hands passed over 10,000 matches - a number no player will ever reach. He wasn't a professional; he was something harder to replace: the face every generation of athletes remembered. Today he was buried at Butel. Some legends are on the scoreboard, others on the floor they swept before every game - Srcka was the second kind, and that's exactly why everyone remembers him.
