Partizan stunned on its own court: FMP knocks it out of the Serbian league, salvation sought in the ABA

Partizan suffered a shock in front of its own fans. In the Serbian league semi-final, an elimination game, the Belgrade giant lost 92:79 to FMP Belgrade and ended its domestic season early. For a club with a EuroLeague budget and ambitions, a loss to a far more modest rival on its own court is exactly what wasn't supposed to happen.

FMP was led by playmaker Filip Barna, who with 26 points was the most efficient player of the game. For Partizan, Carlik Jones stood out most with 17 points, while Arijan Lakić added 15 - but it wasn't enough to prevent the upset.

In the Serbian league final, FMP will await the winner of the duel between Red Star and Spartak Subotica. That the two biggest Serbian clubs could find themselves out of the final is a scenario few would have written down seriously a few weeks ago.

Still, Partizan's season isn't over. The Belgrade side now faces a series of up to five games in the ABA League against Dubai Basketball - a last chance to save the year with a trophy. The question is what kind of shape they enter that series in after a blow like this to their confidence.
