Eleven casings on the asphalt outside a business in Tetovo - that is the figure left behind after a night of gunfire. Not a street brawl, not a random incident, but an organized armed attack on the property of a private company. And the Interior Ministry, as usual, promises „intensive measures” and stays silent about everything else.

The case was reported on 17 July by a 42-year-old man from Tetovo, who said that during the night unknown attackers fired at his company's premises. The forensic team from the Tetovo police found 11 casings from fired rounds and recorded damage both to the building and to several vehicles parked nearby.

Eleven shots in the middle of the night in one of the largest cities in the western part of the country, and from the police so far - not a word about a motive, nor about any possible suspects. „Intensive measures are being taken to identify the perpetrators,” they announce. A phrasing we know by heart - the same one repeats after every shooting, and how many of them end with an arrested perpetrator?

Shooting at businesses is nothing new in the western part of the country. When someone empties an entire magazine into another person's property, it is rarely an impulse - more often it is a message. The question the institutions do not want to open out loud is whose message it is, and about what.

The investigation, they say, continues. We will see whether it produces a name and a face - or whether it joins the long list of unsolved shootings for which no one has ever answered.
