Yam Madar Drops 41 in the Derby Against Maccabi, and EuroLeague Still Has Him on the Bench

Yam Madar closed the regular season with a career high - 41 points in the derby against Maccabi Tel Aviv, with the kind of efficiency every scout wants to see in the big EuroLeague games. Hapoel won 115:97, and Madar played like he wanted to close the job himself.

The numbers are nearly unreal: 15 of 19 from the field, nine threes from ten attempts, two made free throws. Five assists in 34 minutes of play. For a career night, this is one of those evenings when a player works with the whole team as an extension of his own hands.

The paradox is that Madar barely gets minutes in EuroLeague this season - 3.1 points, 1.4 assists in fewer than 10 minutes per game. The same player smashing records in the Israeli league has been carried by the bench in the European competition. The question that comes with summer: where will he play next season?

Hapoel finished second in the regular standings, behind Maccabi Tel Aviv, and now faces a playoff against Maccabi Rishon in a best-of-three series. For Madar, this is the last test before the market - and if he turns up like he did in the derby, EuroLeague won't be able to send him home on a three-month break.
