Barcelona look at Bayern again - this time the target is Kane, the replacement for Lewandowski

The Spanish media is spinning the same record - Barcelona wants the goalscorer from Bayern. This time the target is Harry Kane, who this season has put up 58 goals and seven assists in 50 appearances. Numbers that read like a steroid ad, but all of it legal and verified.

Kane arrived in Munich three seasons ago and has since scored 143 goals in 146 appearances, breaking records previously held by Robert Lewandowski. And Lewandowski is exactly the reason - he's leaving Barcelona at the end of this season, and the Catalans have to replace him. On the list, Kane is the first choice, but the club knows the takeover won't be simple.

Kane's contract with Bayern runs until 2027. That means the Germans can set whatever price they want, and Barcelona, with their well-known financial limits, probably won't be able to meet it. As more reasonable targets, Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid and João Pedro from Chelsea are mentioned. The word „reasonable" here means „just as expensive, but not impossible".

Atlético have no intention of letting Álvarez go - the entire attacking structure is built around him. Chelsea recently bought Pedro and see him as a long-term investment. Kane and Álvarez will probably cost north of 120 million euros each in today's market. Chelsea will demand a similar sum to even open talks for Pedro. Barcelona makes a list in a magazine - writes, but doesn't buy.

Maybe the Catalans should stop chasing blockbuster names and do the math on a calculator. Ferran Torres has already shown he can play centrally, and pairing him with a younger striker with upside might cost half of Kane. A strategy with no applause, but with more left in the bank at month-end. Although - when has Barcelona ever made decisions on calculated finances?
