Disney's "Fantasia" returns as a live concert in Hall 1 of the NDK in Sofia on 23 January 2027. The Symphony Orchestra of Bulgarian National Radio will play the score in full sync with scenes from both films, projected on a high-resolution big screen. Konstantin Dobroykov conducts.

The original "Fantasia" came out in 1940 and was Disney's attempt at something nobody had tried before - animation with no narrative, driven entirely by classical music. It was a commercial failure on release and a landmark work a few decades later. The sequel "Fantasia 2000" repeated the same logic with a new generation of compositions and animators.

The programme runs through some of the most loved works in classical music, among them Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony and Debussy's "Clair de Lune". The format is not your usual film-in-concert night: here the picture and the music had to be synchronised at the point of creation, so the orchestra works inside a frame that allows no drift.

The concert is organised by Sure. Entertainment together with the BNR orchestra. Tickets run from 15 to 30 euros via bilet.bg - cheap for a symphonic performance with projection. Hall 1 of the NDK is the largest concert hall in Sofia, and January is the month when programmes like this find their audience.
