Fenerbahçe Humiliate Liverpool, Haaland Punishes Leipzig Yet Again, and Alioski Scores Off the Crossbar

Fenerbahçe - Liverpool 3-2: ahead in the 69th minute, beaten at the end

In Istanbul, Liverpool did something that had never happened to them before: took the lead that late in a big European game and still went home beaten. Trey Nyoni scored in the 25th minute via a deflection, becoming the youngest player to score his first goal for Liverpool on the European stage, but Mason Greenwood equalised right away, also via a deflection, from a free kick. Alexander Isak headed the visitors back in front in the 69th minute from a Cody Gakpo cross. Then Archie Brown got in behind Szoboszlai for 2-2, and just moments later Vedat Muriqi, from a cross by none other than Brown, scored his first Champions League goal and the 3-2 winner. It's Fenerbahçe's first win in the competition since 2008. Liverpool are still in decent shape on nine points, but how do you explain falling apart in a matter of minutes?

Leipzig - Manchester City 2-3: Haaland finds his favourite opponent

If there's one club that should run from Erling Haaland, it's Leipzig. The Norwegian scored the 3-2 winner in the 78th minute from a low Elliot Anderson cross, his 13th goal in nine games against the German club. City led twice, through a Castello Lukeba own goal and an Enzo Fernández header in the 57th minute, and Leipzig came back twice through Ridle Baku and Antonio Nusa. That ended Leipzig's run of ten straight home wins, and City moved into the top eight on 10 points. Three wins from four league-phase games, and City once again smell direct qualification for the knockouts.

Kane stays in Munich until 2029 on the most lucrative contract in Bayern history

Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern until June 2029, and according to The Athletic it's the most lucrative deal the club has ever signed, enough to make him the highest-paid footballer in Europe by base salary. The figure hasn't been published, so for now the "record" is known only to Kane and Bayern's accountants. The numbers on the pitch, at least, are public: 156 goals in 161 games, two Bundesliga titles and the 2026 Ballon d'Or, the first for an Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001. "I want to fight for the best, the biggest trophies," says the England captain. The Champions League is the next target, and a return to the Premier League is looking less and less likely.

Gaštarov hits the bar, Nakajima rescues Red Star in the 92nd minute

Macedonian international Matej Gaštarov started and was one of Red Star Belgrade's best players in the Conference League, but the goal just wouldn't come: after the equaliser he hit the crossbar and created several more good chances. Red Star came close to embarrassment against Andorra's Inter Club d'Escaldes, who took the lead first. Vladimir Lučić equalised in the 80th minute, and Yuta Nakajima made it 2-1 in the 92nd with a shot from around 30 metres that the goalkeeper couldn't hold. Red Star played with ten men after a straight red card for Aleksandar Katai in the first half, and this is Albert Riera's first Conference League win. In the same round Eljif Elmas played the full 90 minutes for Atalanta in a 1-1 draw with Kairat Almaty and had a goal ruled out in the second half, so the Italian club's bad run goes on.

Alioski scores off the crossbar, Lugano make it three wins from three

Ezgjan Alioski scored the second goal in Lugano's 3-0 win over Kauno Žalgiris: a loose ball, a powerful shot from the edge of the box, in off the underside of the crossbar. The Swiss top-flight side scored all three goals in the first half and have three wins from three games in the Conference League. In the same round Elmin Rastoder started for Panathinaikos in a 2-1 win over CSKA Sofia, and Visar Musliu played the full 90 minutes for Sint-Truiden in a draw with Brann. Lugano haven't put a foot wrong in Europe, and Alioski is making sure the wins look good too.
