Kane Wins the Ballon d'Or, United Are a Point Above the Relegation Zone, and VAR Rules Out Three Goals in Gostivar

Kane wins the Ballon d'Or ahead of Mbappé and Yamal

Harry Kane, at 33, lifted the Ballon d'Or at the ceremony in London, ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal. The numbers leave little room for debate: 61 goals and 7 assists in 51 games for Bayern, a domestic treble and six more goals at the World Cup, where England finished third. He is the first Bayern player to win it since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (1980 and 1981) and the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001. Yamal won the best young player award for the third year running and said it should have gone to his teammate Pau Cubarsí. Goalkeeper of the year is Unai Simón, coach of the year Spain manager Luis de la Fuente. For years they called him the best striker without a trophy - now he has them all at once.

Mbappé's 100th goal for Real ends Barcelona's perfect run

Real Madrid won 2:1 at the Camp Nou and ended Barcelona's perfect start to the league season. Mbappé put Real ahead in the 41st minute with a goal that looked more like billiards - a deflection off Gerard Martín carried the ball into the net. Raphinha equalised from a Pedri pass, but late on Mbappé scored his 100th goal for Real, after a move involving Bellingham and Camavinga. Yamal had a big chance to make it 2:2 but shot wide. After the match La Liga opened an investigation into an attack on Camavinga by a Barcelona fan. A Clásico decided by a ricochet and a milestone - and one more case where the talk after the match isn't only about football.

United a point above the relegation zone, Carrick awaits his verdict

Bournemouth won 3:0 at Old Trafford, handing United their sixth defeat in 12 games. The club is just one point above the relegation zone. Michael Carrick says he takes responsibility and will keep working until a decision is made; no formal decision has come yet. The tension with captain Bruno Fernandes is out in the open: after the 4:1 Champions League defeat to Como he criticised the tactics, and against Bournemouth he spent the whole match on the bench. The fans chanted Carrick's name and aimed their anger at the owners, the players and sporting director Jason Wilcox. Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe are mentioned as replacements. When the stands defend the coach and boo the board, who is really making the mistakes in Manchester?

Three goals ruled out in Gostivar: Shkëndija and Vardar draw

The derby between Shkëndija and Vardar ended 0:0, and the VAR room played the lead role. Ndzengue's goal in the 30th minute was disallowed for offside, and in the 89th and 93rd minutes VAR also wiped out goals by Danev and Spahiu for the visitors from Skopje. The Football Federation of Macedonia issued a statement saying all three decisions were correct, made "by drawing offside lines", and added that it remains committed to fair play "despite attempts to portray the refereeing differently". With the point, Shkëndija stay top on 24 points, ahead of Struga on 23 and Vardar on 21. When the federation has to put out a statement to convince people the lines were accurate, how much trust is there really in First League refereeing?

Sila puts Tikveš in the title race

In Kavadarci, Tikveš beat Bashkimi 3:1, and the match turned when Nfanli Sila came off the bench. The Guinean striker scored twice and set up Fall - all between the 51st and 63rd minutes. It's his tenth goal of the season, making him by far the league's top scorer. Tikveš have 20 points, four fewer than Shkëndija, and are unbeaten in eight games. Limani scored a consolation goal for Bashkimi in the 88th minute. Next up is a trip to Shkëndija of Aračinovo, the only team to have beaten the Kavadarci side this season - a real test of whether Sila is a miracle or just in good form.
