Fifteen fires in a single day, and the three biggest are burning on landfills

The Crisis Management Centre logged fifteen open-air fires in one afternoon, seven of them still active by evening. The list is worth reading slowly: Prilep - the "Trizla Teke" landfill. Ohrid - the landfill at Bukovo. Vasilevo - dry grass and an illegal dump. This is not a forest fire in untouched nature. This is waste burning in places where waste was never supposed to be. The extinguished fires stretch from Bitola to Kumanovo, from Lipkovo to Veles. In one afternoon. That is not a local accident, it is the condition of an entire country.

The Crisis Management Centre appeals to citizens not to light fires in the open. The appeal is correct and necessary, and it is also the only tool that ever appears in the announcements. The fire crews do their part, working through the night near Kavadarci. The question is who does the part that comes before the fire - clearing the illegal dumps, cutting the stubble, watching the locations that burn every single summer.

Bogorodica: 17,500 people in 24 hours and a customs officer with twenty years of service

Through the Bogorodica border crossing alone, 17,500 people passed in a single day. Three hours of waiting to leave, about one to enter. At Dojran the queue reached the church in Star Dojran and the standstill lasted more than four hours. A Serbian citizen posted what the customs officer told him: that he has worked there for twenty years and does not remember a jam like this.

The numbers show where the bottleneck actually sits. Around four thousand people crossed at Dojran in the same period - four times fewer than at Bogorodica - and the wait there is still three hours. So the problem is not only the number of vehicles, it is processing capacity. The interior ministry says all capacities have been deployed; the border services advise drivers to choose their travel time carefully. The summer season falls in the same weeks every year. The return peak falls after the same holidays every year. That is the one completely predictable thing in the whole story.

The bacterium in Gostivar has a name, and the city has three water tankers

Pseudomonas aeruginosa - that is the name of the bacterium that has made Gostivar's water undrinkable for weeks, confirmed by Stojanche Angelov, director of the Protection and Rescue Directorate. It causes infections of the skin, eyes and ears, and in vulnerable people of the urinary tract and lungs, with high resistance to the usual antibiotics.

The official defence of an entire city today consists of three tankers. Mains water may be used only as technical water, hyperchlorination continues, and samples have been taken for analysis. According to the health ministry, the total number of patients examined stands at 4,684, with the situation stable and far below the 18 July peak. That is true, and it is good news. But 4,684 people passing through one hospital because of municipal tap water is not an epidemiological statistic - it is a bill. The analyses will say when the water is safe again. Not one of them will say why it stopped being safe.

Doshnica: 70 days of blockades, then the deadlines quietly extended

Last year activists held out through seventy days of blockades on Kozhuf to defend the Doshnica river from two small hydropower plants, and in September the company pulled out its machinery. Now the "Green People's Guard" is warning that the government has passed a decision extending the construction deadlines, and that machinery is being prepared to move back in, with security.

This is happening in the very same week that two unfinished mini hydropower plants on the Pena river are being dismantled on Shar Planina, stopped because of the national park status. The difference between the two cases is a single administrative decision: Shar Planina has the status, Kozhuf does not. Levica is demanding full access to the documentation - building permits, concession contracts, geodetic surveys, proof of paid fees. That is not the list of a party trying to block a project. That is a list of things that should already be public in any normal procedure.

Kuklica: a woman detained for charging entry to a protected natural monument

The Kuklica site has been a natural monument since 2008, which means the state has had a legal duty to protect and manage it for nineteen years. Instead, on Sunday police detained a 41-year-old woman after a report that she physically attacked visitors to the site. It is not the first time - weeks earlier a woman with similar initials was found there despite a court order barring her from the location.

The municipality of Kratovo says it has been prevented from managing the site for a long period, held unlawfully by an association, and that it won a first-instance ruling. The ruling is under appeal, so it is not final. Kuklica is the point every tourist guide to Macedonia puts on the map, while the reality on the ground is mutual accusations, court disputes and police interventions. Protecting a natural monument is not a civil dispute between two parties with equal rights - it is a duty of the state.

The video found them in a single day

Two minors and a 20-year-old are suspected of the brutal beating in Gostivar - a young man kicked in the head, lying motionless while the stick kept coming down on his back until it broke. So the institutions can do it: full documentation, coordination with the duty prosecutor, in one day. When the whole country is watching. The attack happened at 2:30 in the morning; the report was filed almost twenty hours later; the measures came after the video had already circulated. Whether the police acted is not in question - they did. What activated them is.

The same pattern repeats in Dobri Dol, where prosecutors are seeking detention for four men over gunfire at a wedding. The police did not catch them in the field - the footage they posted themselves did. In Ohrid, minors were staying unregistered, ten to an apartment, and nobody is asking about inspections.

The day's bills: apartments, electricity and one procurement with no price

A square metre in Skopje's Centar reached 3,360 euros while rents fall 17 percent: 8,369 transactions and 351.7 million euros of turnover in a market that has less and less to do with living somewhere. On the energy side, the Danube shut down Cernavoda while Paks runs at ten percent, and the exchange is already trading above 100 euros per megawatt-hour. In Skopje, the opposition and the mayor are trading blame over waste, the Lepenec and the Vardar, while an artificial intelligence procurement still has no published value.

Abroad, Mucunski admits Bulgaria is also asking for historical concessions, but the details of the talks remain secret, with a message that citizens should stay calm. And a magnitude 2.5 earthquake in Skopje passed with no injuries and no damage - but in this city the word "earthquake" is never just news.
