Masaka Africana, a show that calls itself the world's biggest afro-house experience, lands at the Heraclea ancient theatre in Bitola on July 24. Instead of an ordinary DJ set, this is a full production with dancers, costumes, a ritual performative aesthetic and a sound that comes straight from the contemporary afro-house scene - a genre that in recent years has broken out of South Africa towards the clubs of Ibiza and beyond.
Masaka Africana was born as a concept that fuses electronic music and visual spectacle into one, with regular performances in some twenty countries and a monthly residency at Cova Santa on Ibiza, one of the most prestigious names on the summer club map. The brand relies on an impressive stage design: feathers, colours, tribal motifs and choreography that turn the show into something between a concert and theatre.
The choice of venue is no accident. Heraclea, an ancient theatre from the second century still used as a living stage, offers an atmosphere few summer events in the region can match - stone nearly two thousand years old set against a contemporary electronic spectacle. The combination is exactly what Masaka Africana seeks for its performances around the world.
Tickets cost 1,000 denars and are available via mktickets.mk and karti.com.mk. The show starts in the evening hours, when Heraclea is at its most striking.
