The Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra plays the Šabac Theatre on October 13 from 20:00. This is one of the best-known jazz orchestras in Serbia, and the night costs 400 to 500 dinars - a price closer to a coffee and a juice than a concert ticket.

The orchestra was founded in Belgrade in 2001, growing out of the Dixieland band of trombonist Ljubomir Matijaca, which at the end of the 20th century was the only group of its kind in Serbia. Its official concert debut came at the Valjevo Jazz Festival in May 2003. Since late 2007 its artistic director has been banjo player and singer Vladimir Racković. It has six albums, from the 2004 debut "Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra" to 2015's "All That Jass", and in 2010 the orchestra became part of the lesson on Serbian jazz in the official eighth-grade music education textbook.

Dixieland is the traditional jazz of the genre's early days, with trumpets, trombone, clarinet and banjo, and the orchestra plays it as a concert ensemble. It is active off stage too: since 2005 it has run the "Jazz Birthday" festival, held every year on February 26, and it has given its educational concert "Tako je rođen džez" ("This Is How Jazz Was Born") several hundred times across Serbia. It has played in Hungary, Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Germany, France, Cyprus and Austria. How many bands end up in a school textbook while they're still playing on stage?

Tickets cost 400 and 500 dinars (about 211 and 263 denars) and are on sale at tickets.rs. Šabac is in the Mačva region, west of Belgrade, and the concert is in the town's theatre hall.
