An Overturned Truck Shut Down the Bitola - Prilep Road: The R1101 Does Not Have a Single Spare Lane

A truck came off the Bitola - Prilep road near the village of Beranci and overturned. The Macedonian automobile association announced that freight traffic on the R1101 route has been suspended since 07:40. So far there is no information about injuries.

According to Bitola police, cars are being let through alternately while the clearance work is under way. That means single-lane passage on one of the busiest regional routes in Pelagonia, on a working day, at the hour when people are travelling to work.

The R1101 is the line connecting the region's two largest cities, and a large share of freight traffic heading south-west passes along it. When that line stops, there is no alternative that does not mean an extra few dozen kilometres.

The cause of the rollover has not yet been established. What is known is that the vehicle left the carriageway - a formulation that leaves speed, road condition and the vehicle's roadworthiness all open.

The good news this morning is that nobody was hurt. The bad news is that the regional routes in Pelagonia do not have a single spare lane - any one overturned vehicle drops all traffic into alternating flow and waiting.
