Crystal Palace Win Their First European Trophy - Mateta Beats Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig

Crystal Palace have won the first European trophy in the club's history, with a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final in Leipzig. The goal came from Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 50th minute, after a deflected shot from Adam Wharton off the gloves of goalkeeper Augusto Batalla.

With this, Palace become the third English club to win this youngest European competition title, after Chelsea and West Ham. Oliver Glasner's side dominated the ball in the early minutes, but without clear chances. The Spaniards came back through Isi Palazon and Jorge de Frutos in the first half, without serious threats to the Palace goal.

After Mateta's goal, Palace had chances to extend the lead - Jeremy Pino hit the post, and Vallecano could not put together serious pressure in the second half. Glasner closes his tenure at Selhurst Park with a trophy in his hands, after it had already been announced this was his last match on the bench.

For Palace fans, this is a historic moment - a club that used to be synonymous with the relegation battle now has a European trophy in the cabinet. And a place in the Europa League next season, as a bonus.
