First came the video. A wedding in Dobridol, near Gostivar, several people with weapons, shooting into the air, all of it filmed and uploaded to social media by the participants themselves. Only afterwards came the police.

After searches at several locations in the village, six people were detained and one was summoned for questioning. The seizure, according to the Interior Ministry's statement, is specific: one pistol with eight rounds, one hunting rifle with seven rounds, three gas pistols and 30 rounds for a gas pistol. In one yard, officers also found 27 spent casings plus one hunting rifle casing.

Those detained are aged between 21 and 46 - among them a father and son from the same village.

It is the sequence that stings

In the whole chronology, the most uncomfortable detail is not the number of pistols. It is the fact that the case only moved after the video appeared online. So: the bullets were flying, but the system woke up only once it became publicly available to watch.

How many celebrations like this passed without a camera? That is a question no press statement answers, and anyone living in this country knows what the honest statistics look like.

Now comes part two - the criminal complaints and, more importantly, what the checks reveal about where the weapons came from. Some of what was seized is hunting equipment, which means a permit either exists somewhere or it does not. That document will be more interesting than the video itself.
