Skopje: 0:3 and not a single shot on target

Macedonia - Switzerland 0:3 at the Toshe Proeski National Arena, in the first round of League B of the Nations League. Remo Freuler opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and Zeki Amdouni added two more, in the 41st and 74th minutes. The Swiss had 22 shots, 11 of them on target. Macedonia had three - not one on target, not a single corner, and expected goals of 0.05. That's the fifth straight game without a goal, or 450 minutes without scoring, and it was goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski who saved us from even uglier numbers. Some fans left right after the third goal - and it's hard to blame them.

Sedloski: "You play for Macedonia with your heart"

Head coach Goce Sedloski first congratulated the visitors and said no better national team had ever played in Skopje. Then he turned on his own: he called the goals conceded stupid, and said some players had taken the field scared. The message is accurate, but it sounds odd coming from the man who picks those players. A bright spot was debutant Matej Gashtarov, who says the team moves on with its head held high, while the coach is announcing a youth overhaul. On the other side played Ardon Jashari, whose parents were born in Macedonia - for him the evening was an emotional one. Next is an away game in Slovenia, and the question of whether fear is cured with new names or with a new plan.

Wembley: Yamal after two minutes, Kane hits the bar

Spain beat England 3:2 at Wembley in the first round of the Nations League. Lamine Yamal stripped the ball from Marc Guéhi and scored as early as the second minute. England hit back through Anthony Gordon in the 36th minute, and a Harry Kane shot deflected off Marc Cucurella made it 2:1. In the 52nd minute Kane had a penalty for 3:1 - and hit the crossbar. Punishment came quickly: Álex Baena equalized around the 60th minute and then set up Mikel Oyarzabal, who chipped goalkeeper James Trafford. The world champions extended their unbeaten run, and England found out how much one missed penalty costs.

City guilty of 114 breaches, rivals want compensation

Manchester City has been found guilty of 114 out of a total of 115 charges of financial breaches committed between 2009 and 2018. Now it's the rivals' turn: several Premier League clubs, among them Manchester United, are already consulting lawyers about compensation - for lost Champions League places, for missed sponsor bonuses, perhaps even through a joint lawsuit. There is a precedent: in June an independent commission ordered Everton to pay Burnley 35.1 million pounds for breaching profitability rules. City say the process "is not over yet," and an appeal is expected. The trophies from those seasons, for now, stay in the cabinet.

The four biggest leagues against Infantino

The Premier League, the Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A - four of Europe's five biggest leagues - are coming out with a joint statement demanding urgent reform at FIFA: more consultation on the international calendar, stronger independent oversight and a real seat for the leagues in decision-making. The trigger was Gianni Infantino's plan from July to sell 20% of FIFA's commercial rights to private investors, which eventually fell through, along with an ever more crowded calendar. France and Belgium have already withdrawn their support ahead of the 2027 election, but Infantino stays on and is offering an "independent review" of his own governance. Who audits whom, when the review is commissioned by the one being reviewed?
