Policeman From Chashka Fired a Pistol at a Family Celebration - Suspended and Facing Charges

A police officer from the Border Surveillance Police Station in Chashka is facing a criminal complaint and immediate suspension after firing his service weapon during a family celebration. According to the Interior Ministry, he fired several rounds, endangering the safety of everyone present at the party.

The man who is supposed to protect citizens from guns fired one himself, in the middle of a celebration. That is exactly why this case is not an ordinary incident - it is a test of whether the institution will apply its own rules to its own people. So far, at least on paper, the response is quick: the case has been forwarded to the specialised unit for prosecuting crimes committed by police officers, at the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organised Crime and Corruption.

In addition to the criminal prosecution, the officer faces disciplinary measures and removal from duty while the proceedings last. The charge is for causing general danger - an article of the Criminal Code that describes precisely a situation like this: firing a weapon where there are people.

The question that remains is whether the case will reach a conclusion or quietly get lost in the drawers, as tends to happen when the accused wears a uniform. The Interior Ministry reacted visibly and quickly this time - which is good. But the real test is not the suspension, it is the verdict. And that is still to come.
