Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov has leveled a serious accusation at Moldova - that Ukrainian military transport planes regularly land at its airport in Marculesti. "They probably aren't carrying potatoes and fresh cheese," he told a Russian agency, leaving the conclusion hanging in the air.
Ozerov claims he is also watching the modernization of the airport itself, and raised the question of whether Moldova abides by its constitutional neutral status at all. The statement builds on older Russian claims from 2025, according to which Moldova serves as a transit point for the illegal arms trade from Ukraine.
As with most such statements in this war, there is no evidence on the table here - there is a claim from one interested party. That doesn't mean it's false, nor that it's true; it means it should be read as part of the information war, not as an established fact. Small countries between great powers - and Moldova is exactly that - tend to become the ground on which others settle their own scores. The Balkans know that position by heart - when you're small and caught between, even your own airport stops being only yours.
