The footage landed on social media first, and only then in the hands of the police. That order tells you everything. In the video from a family celebration in Dobridol, a village near Gostivar, men are seen firing guns - out in the open, in the middle of the village, in the middle of a party. Nobody hides, nobody is afraid. Why would they be?

This evening the Interior Ministry announced that after searches at several locations in Dobridol six people were detained and one was called in for questioning. The searches began at 18:00 at the home of I.S. (21), five minutes later at A.I. (30), where a gas pistol was found and seized. The home of I.B. (25) was searched at the same time.

The biggest haul came from one family. At 18:15, at the home of B.A., police found 30 rounds for a gas pistol, and in the yard another 27 spent casings plus one hunting cartridge. Father B.A. (46) and his son M.A. (21) were both taken into custody. Ten minutes later, at T.M. (26), officers found a pistol with eight rounds, a hunting rifle with seven rounds, and another gas pistol.

Pistols, a hunting rifle, dozens of rounds - all of it in one village, across a handful of neighbouring houses. And all of it came to light after a video went viral. The question is not how the police found it all within hours. The question is why they needed a video to start looking.

The Ministry says appropriate charges will follow once the case is fully documented. That is the same sentence you hear after every shooting like this - and shootings like this happen at every larger celebration, filmed or not. The only variable is whether somebody pulls out a phone.

A fired bullet does not ask who is celebrating. It comes down somewhere, and sometimes it comes down on someone. Do we really have to wait for that case before firing guns at a wedding stops being treated as folklore?
