If you are driving back from Greece today or heading towards Serbia, check the situation before you turn the key. Morning data from the Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Macedonia shows 40-minute waits at Tabanovce - in both directions. At Bogorodica, the delay is around 30 minutes, but only on the way out towards Greece.

For those coming home through Bogorodica, the news is better: the auto club reports no significant delay on entry. The other crossings are clear.

This is an improvement on Saturday. Yesterday, Tabanovce and Bogorodica were holding drivers for up to an hour. But it is the Sunday afternoon rush that usually shreds people's nerves, so a morning figure is no promise about the afternoon. The state roads company's cameras and the auto club's updates refresh through the day - worth another look right before you set off.

The summer truck ban is in force today too

On state roads, vehicles with a total mass above 15 tonnes are barred from moving between 09:00 and 22:00. On the Skopje - Ohrid - Skopje stretch, the ban applies to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and runs from 07:00 to 22:00, with exceptions for certain types of transport.

From 17 August to 1 October the traffic regime in front of the Preod toll station has also been changed, because of embankment repairs on the A4 motorway, on the Miladinovci - Sveti Nikole - Stip section.

The roads are dry, but traffic outside built-up areas is heavier than usual. The auto club is urging drivers to adjust their speed, especially on sections where rockfall is a risk. At the end of summer, that is not a box-ticking sentence - it is the part that gets ignored most.
