A public event in Peshtani ended with police and six people detained. This was not a local quarrel between neighbours - those detained come from Veles, Bitola, Prilep and from Peshtani itself.

According to police, on 28 August at around 23:35 officers from the Ohrid regional department detained two men from Veles aged 42 and 36, two residents of Peshtani aged 52 and 45, a 21-year-old from Bitola and a 19-year-old from Prilep. All six, during the public event in the village, disturbed public order with a physical fight among themselves.

The age range is what stands out. The youngest is nineteen, the oldest fifty-two. This is not a young crowd scrapping outside a club - these are men old enough to have grandchildren, squaring up to each other at a village celebration.

Peshtani is an Ohrid village that in August lives entirely off summer tourism. A public event in that season means a full square, means guests, means people who came out to spend an evening. And it means everyone present watched the scene, including the ones who paid to be there.

Once the case is fully documented, the appropriate charges will be filed against the six. In practice that usually means misdemeanour proceedings and a fine - an amount that will not be a turning point for any of them.

The question is not why they fought. The question is why a public event in a tourist village in August has no security capable of stopping a fight before the police arrive.
