Another Round of False Bomb Threats: Diamond and East Gate Malls Evacuated

Another week of false bomb threats in Skopje - the latest two targeting the Diamond and East Gate shopping malls. Evacuations, police sweeps, panic among shoppers - and at the end, the same result every time: a hoax.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed the reports of explosive devices were false and that there was no security threat. Police carried out standard security checks, evacuations, and detailed inspections of both buildings.

But the "standard procedure" isn't free. Every false alarm ties up dozens of officers, evacuates thousands of people, triggers panic, and disrupts daily life. When this becomes a weekly occurrence, the question is: who is making these calls, and why haven't they been caught?

False bomb threats are a criminal offense. But the penalties clearly aren't enough of a deterrent. Until the perpetrators are found and face serious consequences, Skopje residents will keep running out of malls every weekend.
