The legendary Gipsy Kings come to Varna on September 14, playing the Summer Theatre as part of Nostalgia Fest. The concert is conceived as a celebration of 40 years of their biggest hit „Bamboléo", and the band performs in a lineup led by Nicolas Reyes, the founder's son.
Gipsy Kings are the group that introduced the world to the sound of rumba flamenco in the eighties - a mix of the traditional Spanish guitar, the passionate Caló singing and a pop accessibility that turned their songs into global hits. „Bamboléo", „Djobi Djoba" and their cover of „Volare" are among their best-known numbers, and the group, descended from the Spanish-French Roma community, has sold over twenty million albums worldwide. They are among the few non-English-language acts to have won over a global audience on such a scale.
The version performing in Varna is Gipsy Kings by Reyes, with Nicolas Reyes at the helm - the voice behind the group's biggest hits. The Summer Theatre show, with its open-air setting by the Black Sea, is ideal for the band's characteristic warm, summery sound, which makes the celebration of a four-decade hit all the more special.
The concert starts at 8 p.m., with tickets sold through bilet.bg at prices in the euro equivalent of around 30 to 62 euros. For flamenco and world-music lovers from Macedonia, this is a chance to see live the names behind one of the most recognisable sounds of the eighties and nineties.
