The blue quiff is back on a big stage in Belgrade. Halid Muslimović, one of the best-selling folk names the former Yugoslavia ever produced, performs on November 12 at Sava Centar. For the generations who grew up on his songs, this is a night where they already know every chorus by heart.

Muslimović was born in 1961 in Prijedor. Before the music, he trained as a metal turner and briefly worked in an ironworks in Slovenia, before his voice carried him onto the stage. His 1985 album Putuj, putuj, sreco moja sold more than 800,000 copies and was, at the time, the third best-selling album in all of Yugoslavia - a figure that still sounds unbelievable for a folk performer even today.

His catalogue is full of songs that became part of the region's collective memory: Hej, ljubavi u dalekom gradu, Znam, za sve sam kriv, O jarane, jarane and Učini bar jedan pogrešan korak, a hit that echoed across the whole of the then-Yugoslavia. He is also counted among the forerunners of turbo-folk, the genre that shaped the pop scene of the nineties.
