The queen of sevdah, Hanka Paldum, comes to Pula on August 6 for a grand concert in the setting of the Small Roman Theatre. The show, titled „Night of Sevdah", is conceived as an evening devoted to songs that have been among the most recognisable symbols of Bosnian traditional music for more than five decades.
Hanka Paldum is a voice that has marked the history of the sevdalinka. Over a career spanning more than fifty years she has performed a string of songs that became evergreens across the entire former Yugoslavia - among them „Moj beharu", „Zelene oči", „Al' pamtim još", „Ja te pjesmom zovem" and „Voljela sam, voljela". Her repertoire is part of the region's shared musical heritage, and her voice has stayed recognisable across generations.
The Pula concert is billed as an evening full of emotion and top-tier musical production. The organisers are preparing a special audio-visual segment that, through rarely seen photographs and footage, will show the key moments of the singer's rich career. The Small Roman Theatre, with its ancient architecture and intimate atmosphere, is a stage that lends this kind of concert extra weight.
The show begins at 9 p.m., with tickets available through entrio.hr. For sevdah lovers holidaying in Istria, this is a rare chance to hear live one of the last great interpreters of a genre slowly passing into legend.
