World-renowned pianist Ivo Pogorelić performs in Osor on August 20, as part of the 51st edition of the Osor Musical Evenings. The recital takes place in the Church of the Assumption of Mary, a setting that has lent this festival its distinctive acoustics and atmosphere for decades.

Pogorelić is one of the most controversial and most respected names on the world piano scene. Born in Belgrade, he shot to global fame in 1980 when he was eliminated from the „Chopin" competition in Warsaw, after which jury member Martha Argerich walked out in protest, calling him a genius. Since then his interpretations, often slow and radically personal, have divided critics - but there is no dispute that he is one of the most original pianists of his generation.

The Osor programme includes Bach's Second English Suite in A minor, Ravel's „Valses nobles et sentimentales", three Brahms intermezzi and a Beethoven piano sonata - a repertoire that showcases the different sides of his style, from baroque precision to romantic interiority. The Osor Musical Evenings, one of Croatia's oldest classical events, run from July 20 to August 23.

The recital starts at 9 p.m., with tickets available through entrio.hr. For classical music lovers holidaying on the islands of Cres and Lošinj, this is a rare chance to hear a live recital by a pianist whose name has long been part of world concert history.
