Looking for more events? The full calendar of concerts and events in Macedonia and the region is in one place.
The international jazz festival Jazz u vinogradu takes place from August 21 to 23 on Mađerkin Breg in Štrigova, in the heart of Međimurje. The sixth edition of this boutique festival pairs top-tier jazz performances with an eno-gastronomic offering and the natural beauty of this part of northern Croatia.
Over the past five years the festival has drawn over five thousand visitors from more than twenty countries, and its artistic direction is led by renowned guitarist Ratko Zjača, a lifetime achievement award winner. This year's programme brings the Jaak Sooäär Trio from Estonia on August 21, Denise Jannah & Band, an international ensemble with musicians from the Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia, Cuba and Croatia on August 22, and Hungary's Symbiosis 5 on August 23.
What sets Jazz u vinogradu apart is the setting - the concerts unfold among the vines of Mađerkin Breg, creating an atmosphere no indoor club can offer. The combination of quality jazz, local wines and specialities and the view of the Međimurje hills makes the festival an experience in which music is only one part of the whole.
Tickets sell through entrio.hr for up to around 34 euros. For jazz lovers from Macedonia after a different kind of festival - intimate, curated and set in nature - Jazz u vinogradu is one of the most pleasant August picks in the region.
