Nicola Peltz's Yellow Dress: The Color of Misfortune and an Engagement That Now Sounds Like a Premonition

Sometimes the color of a dress says more than all the declarations of love. Six years ago, on exactly June 24, Nicola Peltz celebrated her engagement to Brooklyn Beckham in a yellow silk dress - a color tradition considers unlucky. Today, on the sixth anniversary of that engagement, the detail sounds almost like a premonition.

The dress was a Victoria Beckham signature, from her spring-summer 2020 collection - midi, asymmetric cut, a deep V-shaped neckline, with pleats and ruffles. The choice wasn't an ordinary one. An old Victorian rhyme for brides says: „Married in yellow, ashamed of your fellow", suggesting the color brings bad luck. In Spanish theater and bullfighting too, yellow has always carried a negative connotation.

Back then everything looked like a fairy tale. Brooklyn wrote on social media: „Two weeks ago I asked my soulmate to marry me and she said yes." The ring - an emerald-cut diamond worth over 280,000 euros. Then came a Florida wedding in 2022 with 500 guests and a haute couture Valentino dress, and in 2025 an intimate vow-renewal ceremony.

But it was at that second ceremony that the crack appeared - David and Victoria Beckham were not among the guests. Since then it's been reported that Brooklyn cut family ties, claiming his parents tried to „destroy" his relationship. Whether the yellow dress really brought misfortune, or two families simply never found a common language, remains a question for those who believe in signs.

Wedding superstitions are as common across the Balkans as in England - here too people mind the color, the day, who steps first. The story of Nicola and Brooklyn doesn't prove yellow is cursed; it proves something more ordinary - that not even the most expensive wedding guarantees peace if there's a family at war behind it.
